What Is the Ozil Goal AI Trend? (Uncle Phil to Grandma)

TL;DR — The Ozil goal AI trend is the viral video trend where people use AI to put themselves, a friend, a relative or a cartoon character in Mesut Özil's place. The goal is his famous 2016 Champions League winner against Ludogorets. It took off on October 7, 2026 with @willbaiano's Uncle Phil version. You can make your own from one photo on Ozil AI, a 15-second video with the trend's original sound.

Your feed's probably full of the exact same football goal right now. You see the keeper dive, the ball float over his head, and a totally unexpected person finish the play.

In the comments, people keep asking what match it is and "How do i make one??". Here's the story of the real goal, the creator who started the wave, the biggest viral edits, and the quick way you can make yours.

What Is the Ozil Goal AI Trend?

The Ozil goal AI trend is a viral social craze where creators swap Mesut Özil for an everyday person or fictional character in his famous 2016 European winner.

Only the scorer changes in the clip. The goalkeeper, the defenders, the camera, the floodlights and the timing stay as they are in the real match footage.

The keeper rushes out, the ball floats over him, and two defenders slide past while the scorer just waits. That's the joke you're laughing at: putting a dad in a vest or a gaming avatar through world-class moves under Champions League lights.

What Happens in the Ozil Goal, Second by Second?

The 15-second clip is one unbroken, slowed-down take from pitch level that follows the scorer through four moments.

The chip over the keeper

The goalkeeper in white rushes out and dives, and the scorer lifts the ball over him. A chip (a soft kick that lifts the ball over the keeper) starts the whole sequence you're watching.

The touch

The scorer runs under the dropping ball and kills it. That first touch cushions the ball so it drops flat right where you're looking on the turf.

The two slides

Two defenders in green slide in one after the other, and the scorer stops and lets both slide past. You see the scorer just wait as both defenders fly across the grass.

The finish

The scorer rolls the ball into the empty net and the camera ends on the goal. It's a calm roll that leaves the net shaking right before your eyes.

Which Real Goal Is the Ozil Goal AI Trend Based On?

Mesut Özil's winner for Arsenal against Ludogorets in Sofia on November 1, 2016 is the real goal behind the trend.

Arsenal had fallen behind early in the Champions League group stage match. Arsenal came back from 2–0 down to beat Ludogorets 3–2 on that chilly night.

Özil scored three minutes from time. He lifted the ball over goalkeeper Milan Borjan, waited as two defenders slid past and rolled it into the empty net.

The match footage is real. Every run, dive and slide you see around the attacker happened during that real comeback in Sofia.

Who Started the Ozil Goal AI Trend?

Brazilian AI creator @willbaiano started the Ozil goal AI trend on October 7, 2026. His post shows Uncle Phil — the dad from The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air — scoring the goal in his vest, shirt and dress shoes.

He placed the famous sitcom father right into the middle of a tense European cup tie. That first video passed 280,000 likes on Instagram in a few days, which put Uncle Phil all over your feed.

The visual of a large man in formal office shoes pulling off delicate football touches caught fire. That one upload is where the Ozil goal trend you're seeing started.

What Are the Most Famous Ozil Goal AI Versions?

Three versions made the trend: Uncle Phil, a Minecraft villager and a grandma.

• Uncle Phil: This first version features the beloved TV dad in his formal vest, shirt and dress shoes, racking up over 280,000 likes on Instagram.
• A Minecraft villager: This gaming version took over your feed and generated 2.7 million views on TikTok.
• A grandma: This popular take shows an elderly woman calmly slotting the ball home, with over 470,000 likes on Instagram.

In every version the scorer keeps their own clothes and shape, and that's the joke you're seeing. Uncle Phil keeps his dress shoes, and the villager keeps his blocky body and robe.

Is the Ozil Goal Video Real or AI?

Both, because the clip pairs real sports broadcast footage with an AI-made lead character.

The 2016 match footage is real. Arsenal really fought back in Sofia, and the broadcast cameras tracked Özil's footwork all the way to the net.

The versions with someone else as the scorer are made with AI. That's the kind of video Ozil AI makes from your photo, placing your face into real football history.
